How to Obtain Your App ID

What is an App ID

An App ID is a GUID which links the clients in your project with an app in the Photon Cloud. The server side setup defines for example how users are authenticated, which regions can be used.

Example: 12345678-abcd-1234-abcd-123456789abc

While an App ID typically can not be kept entirely secret, you should not post it publicly. Talking to Photonians, is it enough to let them know the first 8 characters.

Dashboard Login

All App IDs are created and listed on the Photon Dashboard.
Creating an account is free and only requires an email address.

Selecting An App ID

Each of our SDKs uses a specific type of App ID (Fusion, Voice, etc), which defines the available features. A Fusion App ID won't work for a Voice or Chat app so find an App ID fitting the SDK in your project.

If your project combines Fusion with Photon Voice, you need one App ID for each "part" of the project.

Creating new App IDs can only be done on the start page of the Dashboard and the Apps - Development page.

Copy And Paste

Applying an App ID to a project is as easy as copying it from the dashboard and pasting it in the code or editor.

Our SDKs for Unity typically open a "Hub" panel in the editor on first run. In some SDKs and samples, you will need to paste the App ID into code.
